San Diego is launching the city’s first unmanned aircraft drone system

Goal

Increase emergency response speed and safety of emergency services with drones

Project

The fire department partnered with a cloud-based platform for unmanned telepresence and data management to launch a pilot that simulated the response to a fire call. The drones will be used to provide real-time visual visibility for the first waves of rescue services. Future plans call for similar technology to be used by the city’s security services. This project is an example of an initiative to improve safety and city services with the help of unmanned aerial vehicles.

Aug. 14, 2018 Pilot launch.
