At its core, it is a set of principles, reflective questions, and processes that focuses at the individual, institutional, and systemic levels.

An equity lens is a process for analyzing or diagnosing the impact of the design and implementation of policies on under-served and marginalized individuals and groups, and identifying and potentially eliminating barriers.

In Social, Emotional, and Academic Development Through an Equity Lens, we lay out how to shift the focus away from “fixing kids” and toward addressing adult beliefs and mindsets as well as school and district policies to create an equitable learning environment.

Equity in the classroom means making sure every student has the resources and support they need to be successful. In an equitable classroom, individual factors don’t hold back students from reaching their full learning potential.
