Goal

Using street lighting infrastructure to support the deployment of a reliable wireless network

Project

The Hong Kong area is testing multipurpose lampposts that collect data to manage the city using the Internet of Things and support the implementation of various smart city initiatives.
Sensors installed on the lampposts will collect real-time data on city life, such as information on weather conditions, air quality, temperature, people, and vehicles. The devices will also provide information on public Wi-Fi hotspots, electric vehicle chargers, information panels for navigation, and free parking spots.
The multipurpose lampposts will use renewable energy sources.

400 units are scheduled to be commissioned in the near future

2019 Completion of the pilot project
