Its role is to integrate energy considerations into planning processes such as land use designation and secure the energy supply for new urban developments of the future and the existing city. To this end, the spatial structure of the power generation and distribution system needs to be aligned with the location and requirements of energy users. Spatial energy planning likewise ensures that urban planning factors are taken into account during the development and planning of energy infrastructure projects.
