The current urbanization requires strong strategies and innovative planning to modernize urban life. Projections indicate that urbanization combined with the overall population growth could add around 2.5 billion people to urban areas by 2050.

Cities need more innovative solutions to deal with massive population growth, rural to urban migration, and resource depletion. It is time for cities in developing countries to take a smart-city concept and embrace it for its undeniable viability.

For many cities around the world, the journey towards adopting smart solutions is still in its early stages. Nonetheless, the implementation of smart cities and related policies must be done with the goal of improving the lives of residents and reducing environmental impact.

The economic advantages of smart cities are many. Better quality of life of residents directly contributes to a better economy. Reduced emissions and cleaner cities also lead to economic growth.

With so much potential to improve several aspects of public service systems as well as the quality of life and reduce costs, it is easy to see why smart cities are the way forward for the future world.
