The Empire State Building and 13 buildings are powered by wind.

Empire State Realty Trust purchases wind power from Green Mountain Energy and Direct Energy.

Goal

Implementation of New York City’s 2040 plan to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions

Project

The three-year contract is for 300,000,000 kilowatts per hour of electricity. Which is the equivalent of lighting every home in New York State for a month.

The foundation is a sustainability specialist: and in 10 years of changes, the “deep carbon” program has reduced the planet’s warming emissions by about 40 percent. The main skyscraper has been running on green energy since 2011.

The company will reduce its CO2 emissions by 450 million pounds, which equals if New York took all cab cars off all roads for a year.

In New York City, buildings generate more than 2/3 of the city’s carbon dioxide emissions.

Results

Residents: Significant reduction of air pollution in the city
Government: Implementation of Plan 2040
